I have taken beans the African island of Madagascar and extracted them for over 9 months in vodka, allowing the vanilla compounds to develop and mature. 

Here’s a fun fact: when you see Vanilla that says Bourbon on it (ie, Madagascar Bourbon), that is referring to the method of curing, NOT the alcohol. There are two primary methods of curing - Bourbon and Mexican.
